TF0833 - Telford Rural Risk Management : Tractor Skills - Level 2 - 13 Credits

Entry Requirements

Must be over 16 years of age (Preferably with a driver's license). students must be physically capable of operating a tractor safely.

Course Content

Riding of a tractor over flat and undulating ground, with a trailed implement. Knowledge of basic service checks and safe operation of a tractor, contingency procedures, and legislation relating to the driving of tractors.

  • 19044 Describe the legal requirements and occupational hazards associated with tractor use

  • 24536 Drive a 2 wheel drive tractor with an attached implement on undulating terrain

  • 24537 Drive a 4 wheel drive tractor with an attached implement on undulating terrain

Open entry. Recommended that participants are involved with land-based activities and are seeking to improve animal handling skills.

Course Content

Moving livestock in yards, preparing and using equipment for handling livestock as directed, treating livestock as directed, catching and restraining livestock, moving a mob or herd: Knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practice, and of animal behaviour.

Open entry; at least three months recent practical experience on a farm or horticultural property, sufficient to have provided a knowledge of the sort of accidents and hazardous incidents that may occur on a rural property.

Strategies for protecting health and safety, through identification of hazards and risk factors, and minimization of injuries on farms.

 

Unit Standards

  • 23542 Identify factors, and describe how to manage factors, that contribute to injury in a rural workplace

  • 23540 Demonstrate knowledge of hazards, hazard control, and the consequences of injury in a rural workplace
