Why study at Telford?

Telford Rural Polytechnic is New Zealand’s only specialist rural polytechnic that can provide you with sound balance of knowledge and skills to apply to career opportunities or onto further study.

Telford is situated on 800 hectares of rolling, South Otago farmland with sheep and beef, dairy, deer, apiculture, horticulture and equine units plus 60ha of forestry blocks. Our horticulture unit is within two minutes walk of Telford’s halls of residence; the administration, classrooms mechanical, carpentry and welding workshops within five minutes walk.

The National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory) (Level 2) will equip you with the practical knowledge and skills that are required for the horticulture industry. Although the majority of your time is spent outside the classroom, there is a need to fully understand various horticulture theory, safety, and issues that arise within the industry. Telford offers small classes with a ‘HANDS ON’ training emphasis. Regular course review ensures that we are providing the most upto- date and appropriate programme.
