Purpose of
qualification:
The qualification is suitable
for people with no previous experience in the agriculture industry,
and is designed to provide them with basic living and agricultural
skills for employment in the rural sector. It is also suitable for
those who are new to working in agriculture.
The compulsory section includes the
skills related to livestock grazing, handling, health and treatment;
and hazard identification and safe work practices. This section
also includes knowledge related to animal welfare; physical
wellbeing of agriculture workers; the safe operation of agricultural
vehicles; and hazard control and the consequences of injury in a
rural workplace.

Enrolment Criteria:

Open to any candidates who
must be 16 years or older on or before the start date of the
course (26th February 2010) and have access to
animals, water troughs, tractors and ATVs to practice the
required skills. All students must be enrolled by 26th
February 2010 – late enrolments will be accepted up to and
including 31st March 2010.

Enrolment forms must be
accompanied by a verified copy of a passport or a birth
certificate. (These documents can be taken to your local
courthouse or be signed by a Justice of the Peace for
verification.)

If you are still at school
the enrolment form must be accompanied by a signed form from the
school principal stating that your other school subjects
will not be compromised by taking part in this course. This
course is to be done outside school hours ie after school, at
weekends and during school holidays.

$200 - Secondary
School Student: $85

assessment days ( All food, accommodation and tuition)

All tuition and follow up
visits related to the course.
Please note -
Travel costs to and from the skills assessment days and the training
day/s are the student’s responsibility.
Course content:
The course is made up of theory and
practical (shaded grey) unit standards. Students are required to
complete all theory and practical unit standards as well as attend
the training day and the practical skills assessment days that will
be held in the first week of the third term break. Students should
also be available for follow up visits during the year.
Qualification:
National
Certificate in Agriculture (Introductory Skills ) (Level 2) - 45 Credits

All theory unit standards need to be
