Purpose of Qualification:

 

If you are interested in a career in Horticulture or want to increase your skills and knowledge in this field then may like to enroll with Telford Rural Polytechnic and study toward part of the National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory) (Level 2). 

                                                                          

Start date:                                         26th February 2010

Completion date:                               17th December 2010

                                                                       

Enrolment Criteria:

  • Open to any candidates who must be 16 years or older on or before the start date of the course (26th February 2010).  All students must be enrolled by 26th February 2010 – late enrolments will be accepted up to and including 31st March 2010.

  • Enrolment forms must be accompanied by a verified copy of a passport or a birth certificate. (These documents can be taken to your local courthouse or be signed by a Justice of the Peace for verification.)

  • If you are still at school the enrolment form must be accompanied by a signed form from the school principal stating your other school subjects will not be compromised by taking part in this course. This course is to be done outside school hours ie after school, at weekends and during school holidays.

 

Cost:   $200  

Secondary School Student:    $85

 

This cost includes the following:

 

  • All resources related to the running of the course

  • The skills training days

  • The practical skills assessment days ( All food, accommodation and tuition)

  • All tuition and follow up visits related to the course.

 

Please note - Travel costs to and from the skills assessment days and the training day/s are the student’s responsibility.

 

Course content:

The course is made up of theory and practical (shaded grey) unit standards. Students are required to complete all theory and practical unit standards as well as attend the training day and the practical skills assessment days that will be held in the first week of the third term break.  Students should also be available for follow up visits during the year.

 

Qualification:

The National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory Skills) (Level 2) - requires 70 credits.  You can complete this through Telford by completing the Part 1 - Horticulture Introductory Training and by completing further study, details of which are found under Part 2 - Pathways to Complete the National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory Skills) (Level 2).

 

Course Content:-  Part 1 Horticulture Introductory Training

In the Part 1 - Horticulture Introductory Training, you can gain 40 or 43 credits practical and/or theory units standards depending on what option you choose (option A or B).

The following unit standards are provided in the Part 1 Horticulture Introductory Training.

All theory unit standards need to be completed before coming to the practical skills assessment days in the first week of the third term break.

 

Work diaries: All experience gained in the practical unit standards needs to be recorded in a work diary. This work diary will be checked during the year and must be handed in at the practical skills assessment days.

Part 2 - Pathways to Complete the National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory Skills) (Level 2).  

You could complete the maintaining unit standards (at least 30 or 27 credits) for the award of the National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory Skills) (Level 2) by choosing a pathway that suits your individual circumstances such as:

  • an appropriate STAR or STAR by eLearning course

or

  • the correspondence course; Certificate in Horticulture Knowledge provided by Telford Rural Polytechnic.

 

There are also other opportunities through Telford Rural Polytechnic for those who would like to study toward the National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory) (Level 2)
