Student Handbook

We welcome International Students to our Campus.

  • Pastoral Care - Telford Rural Polytechnic observes the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students available from the Ministry of Education website www.minedu.govt.nz/goto/international or by request from Telford.

  • English Language Proficiency  If English is not your first language, you must demonstrate that you have reached a satisfactory standard in one of the two most common and accepted English language tests:

    IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

             The minimum performance level in the IELTS (academic) test for admission to Telford courses is an overall band score of 5.5.

          TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

          The minimum performance level in the TOEFL for admission to Telford courses is: 500.

  • Immigration - New Zealand Immigration provide full details of permit requirements, visa and advice on rights to employment while studying in New Zealand. Reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at: www.immigration.govt.nz

  • Eligibility for Health Service - Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand.  If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment.  Full details on entitlements to publicly funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at www.moh.govt.nz. [The New Zealand Government has made it compulsory for international students to have travel and health insurance and Telford requests confirmation of this before arrival.]

  • Accident Insurance / Travel Insurance - The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs.  Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz[The New Zealand Government has made it compulsory for international students to have travel and health insurance and Telford requests confirmation of this before arrival.]

  • Travel arrangements and Airport Pick-up - We are happy to arrange pick ups for our International students to be met at Dunedin  International Airport. Please contact the International Liason to make these arrangements Email Us

  • Visa Information - For all information about visas, contact the New Zealand Immigration Service. Visit their website at: www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/study

  • Fee Protection / Refund Policy - Refer to QMS.
