Rugby
It was a big
weekend for rep rugby in Cromwell last Monday when the
annual clash between Central
Otago and South Otago was played, with matches for U14,
U16, U18, Development and Premier teams. Each region selects
their best available players for theseteams and rugby selectors then choose players for Otago and Otago
Country teams. The weather conditions were not good
for rugby and a lot of the players were covered in mud from
head to toe by the end of the matches.
The Telford
students selected to play for South Otago were:
Caleb
Wall for the Premiers, Jeff Meredith for the
Development side and Adam Bishell,
Reihana Allen and Lyndon Buchanan for the U-18 team.

Results:
Premiers
Central 16, South Otago 14
Development
Central 8, South Otago 22
Under 18
Central 28, South Otago 24
Club Rugby
Hayden Tapp's Clinton
team hosted
Crescent from Kaitangata for the second time this season. Clinton
had lost to Crescent in the
first round so the Crescent team including Caleb Wall, Jeff Meredith
and BJ Campbell came
into the match as favourites to win. Clinton's
forward pack got physical up front and shut down Crescent's
options making it hard for them to spin the ball wide.
Crescent showed good skills and were 12-7 ahead at half time. As the game progressed Clinton
managed to muscle their way back with a try scored by Hayden
Tapp and Clinton's goal kicker, converted a penalty four
minutes from full time to take the win.
Soccer
Balclutha Ladies
team played Green Island. Fiona Darwen was moved into mid
field for this game, making the most of opportunities in
this new position. Fiona provided a
cross kick which lead to the only goal being scored for the
game. |

Wow, what a
week….
Over the
past week we’ve been pretty full on with a lot happening on
and off campus.
Last
Tuesday we had the Revolution tour going around the schools,
telling everyone about their trials and tribulations of
life. The group expressed themselves in the form of dancing,
singing, rapping and audience participation. It was one of
the more entertaining lunches we have had on campus, with
both students and staff enjoying the
presentation.

Basketball
Wednesday
night basketball kicked off with 2 games being played.
Domination was the main focus for the first game with the The Telford Tormentors
(staff team), taking full advantage
of their skill and experience beating Barney and the
Learners club 61-19. Davina Booth top scoring for the
Tormentors 20 points.
Not to be
left out, the Diplomas showed up in force with their team the
Lamas who played Ride Me. With a bit skill from Reihana
Allen and Adam Bishell, Ride Me rode the Lamas into the
ground beating them 28-23.
The Jam
Session
For the
music lovers, we have some talented staff and students who
have been getting together with instruments each Wednesday
evening and busting out
some sounds.
Staff members Pete Walker and Nelson Bungard are
starting to get more and more of a following with students
joining or just coming in to watch and listen to the talent
. Two of the highlights of the night were
Jack McGrath playing his saxophone, and guitar guru Kieran
Bell.

Weekend
Sport
The Telford
Bulls travelled away to Alexandra to play Dunstan 2nd XV on
Saturday. After a cold start to the day the weather turned
out to be a warm and sunny in Central Otago, which was just
what the doctor ordered for Adam Bishell to show his skills
and direct traffic from the forwards to the backs and touch
down for the first try of the day. Joseph Vollebregt played his first game at number 8 and he showed good
strength making a lot of ground with ball in hand proving
very difficult for the opposition to tackle. With Dunstan on
the back foot and not wanting to send the ball out to the
their backs, their forwards took the Bulls on up front, but
found the presence of Chris Cairns-Nelson, Jim Earl and Stuart Feary too strong around the fringes at ruck and maul time,
in turn setting up John Gow to cross the line for his first
try for the season.
In the second half the reserve wingers
came on and made a big impact with Daniel Colgan putting
pressure on out wide, forcing his opposite number to make
mistakes which saw Daniel capitalise and score in the
corners. The other winger, James Fletcher, managed to side
step his way through red and gold jerseys and dive over in
the corner for his second try of the season. Dunstan fought back in the dying minutes of the game
but Telford
managed to hold them out, claiming the win 29-8.

Saturday
Night Social
The Student
Association put together a Toga party, combined with the
farewell for the mid-years. There was lots of dancing and fun
had by all with the students certainly getting right into the theme of
the night. The mid-years where presented with a gift from the
President, Chris Cowie based on some of the good times,
stories and memories the mid-years had created in their time
spent here at Telford.
A special thanks goes to the Student
Association for organising a great night and also to the
staff Denise Hall, Owen Marshall, Ian Knowles and Stewart MacDonell who volunteered their services for the night.

Weekend Sports Report
Rugby - The Telford
bulls rugby team travelled to Queenstown over the weekend to
play Wakatipu . Despite the weather warnings and flooding
over the past week the day turned out to be sunny and fine
and the ground was in good condition.
From the kick off Wakatipu
showed good skills all round, and their forward pack made
their presence felt, demolishing us at scrum time.
Wakatipu took full advantage of
the fact that we had travelled 3 hours to get there, scoring
tries earlier in the game. The Telford team were slow and
sluggish in the first 20 minutes, but picked up as the game
progressed. Adam Bishell took up the task of keeping Telford
in the match kicking a penalty , scoring a try and
converting it as well. Wakatipu dominated the first half and
were in the lead 12-10 at half time.
After a
bit of a stir up from the coach and the feisty Stuart Feary
coming on in the second half, Telford started their fight
back. Stuart came out with guns blazing and some good strong
running from the half back position to lift the team. All of
a sudden Telford forward pack showed they weren’t done and
dusted: with Jeff Corns and Brad Beatson taking charge at
scrum time Telford started to dominated scrums and at ruck
and maul time. With a strong platform set in place from the
forwards, the backs got some good running ball and scored
two tries out wide, one from Lyndon Buchanan and the other
from James Fletcher who side stepped his way down the field
to touch down in the corner. Wakatipu had not given up, they
also scored in the second half but with good pressure out
wide form Daniel Colgan and Nick Potts on defence, Telford
managed to hold them out winning the game 20-19.
Nick Potts-got player of the
day for great cover defence work and support on attack.

Other rugby results-
Clinton 10, Clutha 24. Josh Monks made his mark on
the game scoring a try carrying both the ball and three
opposition players across the line - the raging bull is back
in form. Due to bad conditions last Thursday night both
teams spun the ball around in a attempt to cross the line,
but Josh did it the old fashioned way, straight up the guts.
However, despite all his efforts, Clutha came away with the
win.
Crescent 0,

Soccer Results
Clutha Men’s A 2,
Northern 1
Clutha Women’s 0, Green Island
Gold 6.
It was a nice Sunday afternoon
to watch a bit of footy but unfortunately it didn’t last
long for the Clutha women’s soccer team who came up against
strong Green Island team determined to win.
With a lot of ball being passed
around the Clutha girls had their opportunities but they
could not capitalise in it. Fiona Darwen played her heart
out in defence, and Anna Miskimmin and Viktoria Ruddle took
what little opportunities they had to try and help their
team score.

Duck shooting
– Opening day for the duck shooters has finally come.
Corey Lambeth was one of many who ventured out in the cold
and wet conditions dressed for war in his camo gear ready to
pounce on unsuspecting feather birds. Some of the Telford
students who went home for the weekend reported that the
numbers of ducks shot were around ten per hunter, and that
it was it was a mixed bag for the opening day.

Rugby
Crescent
Premier
rugby team played Heriot at Kaitangata,
winning the game 40-6.
Caleb Wall played a good solid game, earning him player
of the day. Fellow team mate
Jeff Meredith, was also a stand out, winning line out ball. Brendan
Campbell has returned back from holiday joining his fellow Telford
mates in the black and white Jersey.
Clinton
Premier
rugby team played Toko at Milton, winning the game 10-8.
Hayden Tapp, putting in another solid
performance for Clinton, but some might think he had been in a
boxing match! It’s about putting the body on the line, shiner of
the week goes to ... Hayden Tapp.
Telford Bulls
rugby team won by default from Toko.
Soccer
Balclutha soccer
have two new stars in their midst.
Troy Blatherwick-Hindmarsh has
swapped his rugby boots for soccer shoes (and tights!) and has made the Balclutha Senior
men's soccer team. They travelled to
Dunedin to face Mornington Senior A, winning the game
7-0.
Tim White is
another
Telford soccer buff. He played for the Balclutha Senior Reserves
against Northern B team, going down 3-1.
Ladies Soccer
Viktoria Ruddle,
Anna Miskimmin and Kirsten Watts are playing for the ladies soccer
team in Balclutha.
The ladies played

defence with
Anna putting on the goalies jersey for the second half. Viktoria got
player of the day for her performance. Unfortunately Kirsten
couldn't play this week due to an
injury, but
we will look forward to seeing her back at training soon and playing
for us.
