International Students

We welcome International Students to our Campus.

Pastoral Care 

Telford observes the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students available from the Ministry of Education website www.minedu.govt.nz/goto/international or by request from Telford.

English Language Proficiency

If English is not your first language, you must demonstrate that you have reached a satisfactory standard in one of the two most common and accepted English language tests:

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System) The minimum performance level in the IELTS (academic) test for admission to Telford courses is an overall band score of 5.5.
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) The minimum performance level in the TOEFL for admission to Telford courses is: 500 plus TWE (Test of Written English) of 4.5.
  • Students may satisfy the English language proficiency requirements for their chosen programme of study if they have gained a prior qualification in an institution in which English is the language of instruction.

Immigration 

New Zealand Immigration provide full details of permit requirements, visa and advice on rights to employment while studying in New Zealand. Reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at: www.immigration.govt.nz

Eligibility for Health Service

Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at www.moh.govt.nz . [The New Zealand Government has made it compulsory for international students to have travel and health insurance and Telford requests confirmation of this before arrival.]

Accident Insurance / Travel Insurance 

The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz . [The New Zealand Government has made it compulsory for international students to have travel and health insurance and Telford requests confirmation of this before arrival.]

Travel arrangements and Airport Pick-up 

We are happy to arrange pick ups for our International students to be met at Dunedin International Airport. Please contact us (International Liason) to make these arrangements.
