Scholarships and Bursaries

There are many scholarships available for study at Telford.

Edmund Sanderson Jeff Farm Training Award

For Certificate Year or Diploma Year
The Salvation Army owns and manages a substantial holding in the Kaiwera District, near Gore, that was bequeathed by the late Mr Jeff. Applications will be considered from all young people who wish to study at Telford – a Division of Lincoln University. Priority will be given to those students who need assistance because of their financial situation, living circumstances or state of health. The awards include study fees, meals and accommodation, funded to a maximum of 80% of total costs.

Applicants must nominate three referees who will outline their view on the personal and academic situations of the applicant. These references will be on the prescribed form available from the address below. Please forward a Referee’s Report form to each of your nominated referees.

Telford Farm Board of Management Scholarship

The Scholarship is being made available to suitable applicants by the Telford Farm Board of Management, which owns and is responsible for, the governance of the 1000 hectares of land known as Telford Farm.  It is a statuary body created under the Telford Farm Training Institute Act 1963 and is charged with providing facilities for practical training of young people in land based industries.

Our mission statement is:

"To operate a commercially and environmentally sustainable farm which supports and incorporates quality training for Telford students." 

Eligibility   

The scholarship will be awarded following an interview by representatives of the Telford Farm Board of Management.  The scholarship is available to those who have either:

  • Been a resident and/or ratepayer in the Otago or Southland Regions for the calendar year prior to commencement of the applicable course

OR

  • Attended a secondary school for at least one year in the Otago or Southland Regions

The scheme applies to those enrolling in any of the following on-campus qualifications:

  • Telford certificate in Agriculture - Level 3      
  • Telford Certificate in Applied Rural Production - Level 4
  • Telford Diploma in Rural Business - Level 5

Students from January and July intakes will be eligible to apply for scholarship.  Applications will close 31st January for the January intake; and the 31st July for the July intake.  Scholarships may range from $1000 to $3000 depending on the number of applicants in any one year

Telford Gowrie Trust

For Certificate Year or Diploma Year
One scholarship to the value of $1,000 is available to a student from the South Island who is enrolled full time in the Telford Certificate in Agriculture course. The scholarship is paid in two parts: $500 upon confirmed enrolment, and $500 on satisfactory completion of the one-year course.

Healthy Soils

For Certificate Year or Diploma Year
One scholarship of $1,000 is available to a student from the North or South Island who is enrolled on the Telford Certificate in Agriculture, and intending to carry on to do a Telford Diploma. This scholarship is paid in two parts: $500 upon confirmed enrolment, and $500 on satisfactory completion of the one-year course.

Telford - Star Award

This bursary to the value of $500, is available to a student intending studying towards a Telford Certificate.  Applicants must have been enrolled as a Telford STAR student or STAR e-Learning student, while attending high school.
Applications should be made at the time of enrolment.

 

Telford - Equine Lease Fee Award

This bursary is available to a Certificate in Equine student who leases a horse from Telford during their year of study.  This bursary is worth $624 and covers the cost of the lease fee.  The student will have their lease fee reimbursed once 10% of the course has been completed. 
Applications should be made at the time of enrolment.

 

Telford - Horse Transportation Award

This bursary to the value of $500 is available to a Certificate in Equine student who wishes to bring their own horse.  This bursary is a contribution towards the transportation costs incurred as a result of bringing a horse to campus.  The recipient of this bursary will receive $500 once 10 percent of the course has been completed.

Telford - New Zealand Pony Club Association Award

This is a scholarship to assist with fees for any New Zealand Pony Club Association Member (NZPCA), wishing to complete a year’s study at Telford.
One scholarship is available to the value of $1,500. Riders must have passed NZPCA C-C+ Certificate.
Applications should be made at the time of enrolment. 

 

Wrightson Education Trust

One $1,000 bursary awarded to graduating students who wish to continue their education.
Application forms available at Telford. Interviews in November for current Certificate students.

 

BNZ - Bank of New Zealand

One bursary of $500 is available to a student who has shown commitment to their course of study throughout the year, not necessarily intending to carry on with further education.

Rotary of Dunedin

Rotary are long-time supporters of Telford, and generously give scholarships to graduating students who wish to continue their education, either Telford Diploma or elsewhere.

Landcorp Farming Ltd

Two scholarships of $2,500 each are offered to Certificate in Agriculture and Diploma in Rural Business students. It is anticipated that the successful students will work on Landcorp Farms during holiday periods and for their work experience over the lambing/calving period.
Application forms will be available at Telford reception during the first term of the course.  The close off date is 31st March. Interviews will be held later in term two. Available for July and January Intakes.

 

Beef+Lamb NZ Agribusiness Scholarship

One fees scholarship is available to a student currently enrolled in the Diploma in Rural Business, to assist with their course fees.

Application forms will be available at Telford reception during the first term of the course. The close off date is 31st March. Interviews will be held later in term two.

 

Clutha Vets Association Scholarship

Two $1000 scholarships available to a Certificate in Agriculture and Diploma in Rural Business student; and one to the value of $500 to a Certificate in Equine Student.
A short 3 minute presentation to be attached with application form and student to be prepared to present it.
Application forms available from Telford reception from February. Applications close 31st Match. Interviews will be held in term two. Available for July and January intakes.

 

Clutha District Council Bursary

One scholarship is available to ALL Certificate in Agriculture and Diploma in Rural Business students to the value of $1,500.00.  Clutha District council will hold interviews in the second term.  Application forms available from both Telford Reception (Ph 0800 835 367) and Clutha District Council.  Available for July and January intakes

 

Dairy NZ

Four scholarships of $2,500 are offered to two Certificate in Agriculture students and two Diploma in Rural Business students who intend to specialise in Dairy.
Applications should be received at Telford by the beginning of February for Certificate and mid November for Diploma. Interviews held at Telford. Available for July and January Intakes. 

 

Alliance Group Ltd

Available to a student enrolled in the Certificate in Agriculture or Diploma in Rural Business. A bursary to the value of $1,000 is available to the son or daughter of a shareholder or employee of the Alliance Freezing Company.

South Otago Farm Forestry Association Bursary (SOFFA)

This bursary is available to Telford Certificate in Agriculture and Telford Certificate in Forestry students. The bursary is intended for a student who has a particular interest in farm forestry, to the value of $1,000.
