Career Opportunities
On successful completion of this programme, graduates will be able to work competently as rural animal technicians in a veterinary practice. They could also gain entry level employment in allied sectors such as dairy farming/manufacturing, retail outlets, animal research, artificial breeding services and TB testing. High performing graduates may pursue higher education and become technologists or professionals in the animal science field.
Entry Requirements
The applicant must have completed four years of secondary school and achieved NCEA Level 2 with NCEA Science (level 1) and at least 12 credits in Chemistry and/or Biology at NCEA level 2 or equivalent.
- The applicant must be at 18 years or over.
- Prospective students must be physically and medically fit to manage the work without putting self and/or others at risk, and have adequate level of literacy and numeracy skills.
- Places are limited so there may be an interview as part of the selection process.
- If English is not your first language you will be required to provide evidence of competency through a test approved by Taratahi, for example an overall IELTS test score of 6.0 overall band score, with no individual component less than 5.5.
